I’m sorry.

We’ve been missing for a few weeks on this platform and all of our RSS feed subscribers must be wondering what happened.

With best intentions to serve you better we subscribed to a new software service to help us better manage our blogging, communication and social media participation.

The new service is very disciplined but as often happens, the complexity of start up can slow you down. Plus what we thought would be automatic was really an automatic reminder that “we” have to do something.

Hot off the press – REMCON jumps up 4 spots in the rankings

We have more than the upcoming holiday weekend to celebrate.

Thanks to our customers REMCON Plastics had a great year and it shows in the 2012 sales rankings for rotational molders just issued by Plastic News.

There are 125 companies in the group which pretty much covers the entire industry from the behemoths to the barely in it. As #36 of those 125 I’d say we serve the customers in our niche very well.

REMCON is not a conglomerate of rolled up companies that failed. Our founder built this business starting 30 years ago with one machine, one product, little capital and lots of drive. Today REMCON is an important manufacturing employer in our city which depends on our success as much as we do.

So whether you reach for the beach, head for the mountains or just relax and fire up the grill at home this weekend, know that we say thank you and pledge to continue to do what we do best…

Where is your to-do list… and what’s on it?

First, congratulations if you have a to-do list. It puts you way ahead of most people.

The basics of good time management haven’t changed whether you’re using the notes function on you’re iPad, scheduling via Google calendar or rewriting notes on a piece of paper. Planning your work then working your plan still applies. And whatever works best for you is a great place to start.

Does your list make you a prisoner or set you free?

Now I’m not taking back my congratulations to list keepers- but what you have on it can be just as harmful as having no list at all.

Some think their list keeps us focused. Others keep it just for the gratification of being able to scratch something off as done. And still others use it as a dumping ground to empty the clutter of their mind. Too many of us use it to simply keep track of low priority tasks.

I’m not preaching time management today. But I am talking about the real value of your time and budgeting as much as possible where you can make the most impact- for yourself, your family and for your company.

Take a new look at your list. Find the top 3 items that if completed would mean a better life for you. Now find the top 3 items that would bring the highest value to your company.

What do you think of them now that you’ve focused? If you’ve impressed yourself with the big results possibilities on your to-do list then you may be on the right track.

On the other hand, if are you disappointedly asking yourself “is that the best I can come up with” then get your head out of the sand and start looking around for bigger opportunities.

Blockbuster moves to serve you better

August 3rd, 2012

There’s never any shortage of excitement here at REMCON and this week is certainly no exception.

Twenty five year industry veteran and long time in house professional Tom Wise has taken on a strategic new role.

He excels at developing novel and cost saving solutions to customer material handling problems. Listening to frontline users, developing smarter solutions to their problems and delivering results with big payoffs are his major strengths.

In his new position as OEM Sales Manager for Custom Molded Products, Tom will be able to bring together his expertise and the power of the REMCON operating teams to champion the growing number of requests from new and existing OEMs.

Dedicating the innovative Wise specifically to OEMs will let us consistently deploy his skills at their highest customer value.

And if that news isn’t big enough, we’ve expanded our factory sales team with the addition of our new Proprietary Products Sales Manager for the Mid Atlantic Territory (NY, NJ, PA, MD, DC, DE, and WV).

Please welcome Lori Bruno. She is recognized throughout the region as one of the top sales executives in her industry. She brings over 28 years of sales, sales management and sales training experience to her strategic new role and is excited about the opportunity to work with an industry leader and local powerhouse.

It was more than her credentials that made her the leading candidate for the spot. Her can-do attitude, commitment to serving the customer and engaging personality made her a clear cut choice to represent REMCON in its own backyard territory.

In her new position, Ms.Bruno will be responsible for upholding the REMCON high reputation with existing accounts while securing new outlets for their extensive line of rotomolded material handling containers, durable highway safety products innovative lockers.

And you know that old saying “good things come in threes”. We’re proud to announce the appointment of Jim Pry and his company IBC Systems of Downingtown PA as the new REMCON representatives for Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana and Michigan. They bring a long history of serving customers like ours with rotationally molded solutions.

Like I said at the beginning- there’s big news for the week with much to look forward to as Tom and Lori dig into their new factory direct responsibilities and IBC Systems begins to fan out to serve their new territory on our behalf. And that’s great news for our customers.

Stop sitting on your assets

July 9th, 2012

It’s Monday and I’m wrestling with my desire to make a quantum leap forward this week. Already today’s routine is clouding tomorrow’s chance for a breakthrough.

It’s been my experience that next to risk aversion the biggest obstacle to making huge improvements in a company comes from people giving up and just going with the flow.

And that means great opportunities get squashed while the company atrophies.

That surrender usually comes when people either stop challenging or fear questioning a longstanding practice or decision from higher up.

On the other hand, good companies build muscle and stamina when motivated people with better ideas to make more money keep pushing “the system” to be heard.  They ignore the “no” they got today and plan on how to get their “yes” tomorrow.

REMCON Plastics achieves powerful results for our customers. I want to share some of that information so other companies can picture solutions that could work in their operations and produce similar savings.

So far I’ve been blocked from doing that in the interest of playing it close to the vest. We make it a priority to know our competitors’ customers. We should assume our toughest competitors already know ours.

The bottom line is that it’s our job to help deploy every asset at our disposal to keep our companies winning in the game of business and to keep trying until we do.

So I’m going to get off my assets and start working again on achieving my important breakthrough.

Out there on the front line so you can sleep in peace tonight

That line is taken from “American Soldier” co-written and sung by country great Toby Keith. His song always chokes me up when I hear it. It tells a simple story of responsibility, sacrifice and duty- a story most of us don’t ever consider being a part of.

“And I can’t call in sick on Mondays
When the weekend’s been too strong
I just work straight through the holidays
And sometimes all night long
You can bet that I stand ready when the wolf growls at the door
Hey, I’m solid, hey I’m steady, hey, I’m true down to the core”

Before you run off to holiday barbeques or the beaches, can you take a moment to think about the lives of young soldiers cut short serving on our behalf?

“And I will always do my duty no matter what the price
I’ve counted up the cost, I know the sacrifice
Oh, and I don’t want to die for you
But if dyin’s asked of me
I’ll bear that cross with honor
‘Cause freedom don’t come free”

Memorial Day strikes closer to home this year. In the last two months I’ve become aware of four soldiers who gave their lives in service to our country. And they died far away from family and friends in Afghanistan and Africa.

My heart goes out to their families as they are forced to deal with Memorial Day on such a personal level.

It’s OK to enjoy the holiday.

Soldiers die in the hope for peace and the defense of our freedom. All I ask is that we truly remember the meaning of the day as we celebrate with our families while theirs grieve.
